Using a Blue Yeti microphone on Linux with Pipewire in 2025

Hardware, Software Arch Linux, Linux, Pipewire

TL;DR: there’s nothing to do, it just works out of the box.

As I work for an amazing fully remote company, I attend a few remote meetings every week, using Google Meet. So, having a good audio and video setup is pretty important, as it helps a lot with communications. Until recently, my setup was basically “a nice webcam and a cheap headset”. After a coworker pointed out that my voice sounded very muted, I decided to upgrade to a much better microphone: the Blue Yeti.

There was just one thing I wasn’t sure about: would that microphone work well on Linux with Pipewire? I’ve seen mixed reviews online, some indicating that editing config files was needed, others mentioning that they had to plug it, unplug it and replug it before it worked… but all these reviews were at least 2 years old, so it was hard to tell if they were still relevant.

Well. I bought one, plugged it, and it just worked. No config needed at all, no need to mess with the USB connectors… Everything works. (I’m using Arch Linux, Pipewire 1.4.2, WirePlumber 0.5.8, and Firefox 138).

The only bad surprise I had is that it’s way bigger than I expected 😅 But I can live with that. Overall, really happy with this purchase!
